Easier said than done…

“How do you do it?” “Don’t you worry every night?” “I’d never let my husband be a cop!”

Some of the best advice ever given to me was by my LEO’s aunt. She is married to a now retired LEO and once told me, “You can’t spend your life worrying. The Lord could take him while he’s out on the streets or while he’s lying in bed next to you.”

Those words have always stuck with me. Simple as they are, the truth in them is powerful. I’m not saying there haven’t been plenty of times I lied awake at night worrying about whether or not my LEO would come home the next morning. The SWAT call outs at 2 a.m. were the worst for me. My mind would run wild with crazy thoughts wondering what I would do if he got hurt or killed.

What Aunt Linda had to say, though, is so very true. Why worry? Why spend my life consumed with what could happen? Anxiety is crippling and worrying about things not in our control is really just nothing more than a waste of time. Enjoy your life and be proud of your LEO!
