Q & A Time: A little insight…
Q: My LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) is unemotional and seems so detached lately. I thought at first it was just an “off” day for him, but it doesn’t seem to be getting any better.
A: Someone once said to my husband, straight to his face, “I would never be a cop. That job changes you.” It was meant in such a derogatory fashion and I really wanted to kick this person right in the shins when she said it, but, unfortunately, this job does change you. How could it not?
Changes may take place in your LEO (Law Enforcement Officer) that often go unnoticed at first. Small changes that take place over a period of years, take hold of his personality and can be tough to deal with.
You think he is unemotional and hard, but is he really just keeping everything in check? If cops got all emotional and worked up at every call they went to, they wouldn’t do very well at their jobs. A police officer has to stay focused and in control of the situation at hand for his own sake as well as the sake of others. After awhile, staying “in check” just comes naturally. He learns to hide his emotions well. It isn’t often when he lets his guard down outside of the home and therefore, doesn’t do it inside either.
